NEW DELHI,March 1.- Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesman M.M. Hassan has described Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan an ‘opportunist.’ Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Mr. Hassan said Mr. Achuthanandan had no moral right to speak about corruption after attending Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan’s roadshow ‘Nava Kerala March’ under pressure from the party Polit Bureau. Mr. Vijayan is facing charges in the SNC Lavalin case. He said Mr. Achuthanandan had been changing his stance on corruption and neither he nor party general secretary Prakash Karat, who also attended the march, had any moral stance to speak about corruption. By deliberately delaying the process of giving government sanction to the Central Bureau of Investigation to prosecute Mr.Vijayan, both Mr. Achuthanandan and Mr. Karat were trying to run away from the issue of corruption. Mr. Hassan said Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi would participate in the conclusion of the ‘Kerala Raksha March’ of KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala in Thiruvananthapuram this week-end. Petitions and complaints received during the march, now on its way from Kasaragod, would be prepared as a charge sheet against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. Senior leaders of the party like A.K. Antony, Vayalar Ravi, Mohsina Kidwai, Janardhan Dwivedi and K. Karunakaran would participate in it. He blamed the LDF government for sanctioning just Rs.10 crore in the State budget for the rehabilitation of Gulf returnees and this proved their understanding of the seriousness of the issue. He urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to clear a package for the rehabilitation of such returnees, prepared by the Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry, which was turned down by the Finance Ministry.
